The Former Convent of Beato António has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1984.Its construction was carried out in the 15th century, at the behest of King D. Afonso V of Portugal, with a view to fulfilling the will of his wife, Queen D. Isabel.

The materials used in the construction in renaissance style of Convento do Beato, predominantly white marble with traces of red jasper of national origin, give it not only unique characteristics but also strong resistance, as proved during the 1755 earthquake

With the extinction of the religious orders in 1834, the convent suffered damage and with the reconstruction, the Royal Military Hospital came to occupy part of the convent. The convent suffered a fire in 1840, with the destruction of the church and part of the building and what was left was acquired by João de Brito, an industrialist who took advantage of the location to install a milling factory. cereals, bakery, and malt, and is also used as a wine warehouse.

In the 20th century, the space has been used for cultural and social events. It became internationally known for being the stage for the recording of the album Acoustica by the German band Scorpions in 2001.

The convent benefit recently of a grand intervention project, with the improvement of its infrastructures, allowing to combine the magnitude of the building and its history.
